Larval mask 5 is one of the original designs created by master mask maker Jonathan Becker while living in Switzerland in 1989. The design was arrived by turning one of the other larvals upside down and moving the eyes for the mask to accommodate the new position. This larval could be named prince or elite. This larval has a serious need to be in charge of every game ever played.
This design was created not far from the origin of the larvals in Basel, Switzerland. The Basel masks are a part of the celebration of carnival. This is a celebration in the early Spring and last moments of winter intended to welcome the spirit of spring after the long cold winter.
The process of creating the larvals involves seeking design that exaggerates certain aspects of the human form, sometimes riffing off animal or insect shapes and energies. Various forms can be combined to create masks that inspire playful fantasy worlds that celebrate out inner child.
