Nightingale Mask

The Greek Theater Mask of the Nightingale is the transformation of Procne and was created for a production of, The Love of the Nightingale by Timberlake Wertenbaker

The Procne character half mask is the daughter of Pandion, King of Thebes. She kills her son and feeds him to her husband Tereus to revenge his rape and mutilation of her sister. She prays to the gods to be turned into a bird to escape Tereus’s wrath. The gods turn her into a Nightingale

This lovely bird half mask is usable for many styles of masked theatre. It has a wonderful expressive range.
