Polydorus

$89.00

Here is a description of the Greek Theatre Mask Polydorus:

Somewhere between a ghost and a dream vision, Polydorus was the youngest of the many sons of King Priam and Queen Hecuba, and for this reason he was sent to their Thracian guest-friend King Polymestor for safekeeping, along with a supply of treasure. When Troy fell, Polymestor treacherously murdered his ward out of greed. The ghost doesn’t quite say that he is prevented from entering the Underworld because he has not been buried, nor does he say that he is exerting any influence on the still living characters, but he does say that he will get what he came for: his mother Hecuba will find his body and give him honorable burial. He also tells of the Greeks’ trouble with adverse winds and the demand of another ghost (who never appears), the ghost of Achilles, for the ritual murder of his sister, the Trojan princess Polyxena.

Images: “Black winged-phantom” (this is what Hecuba describes in her dream). He is Hecuba’s youngest son, so a youthful quality is important. He warns his mother of the outcome of the play in a dream.
