This mask is considered to be a portrait style mask. “Portrait style masks serve as teaching devices” (warrior used to teach young warriors) or used in dance celebrations of the deceased. they are used to “tell the story of great happening and a supernatural power who assisted.” Portrait masks can also be carved to represent an ideal in order to humanize it. They can be valued just for the artistic appeal they carry with the passing down of history. Today, they serve as a preservation of cultural heritage.
