Description
This custom theater mask depicts a Spanish Conquistador and was used in The Dance of The Conquest, a common dance used to tell the legends surrounding the defeat of the Mayas by the Spanish in the 1500’s. The Dance of the Conquest was a Spanish dance that brought to the new world to assist in conversion of the natives to Christianity. Identifying features such as the blond hair Conquistador, however true to tradition, these features can easily be painted other colors to change his identity.
The paint treatment on this particular mask imitates a wooden mask here in the studio with a very dark finish. Typically the conquistador is depicted as a very pale skinned character.
