Truth Weave

$685.00

This mask is called: Truth Weave

It was inspired by you, it is you and it is for you.

I made the mask earlier in the spring so it could hang in a gallery show in Ohio. I did the Performance Demo as part of the exhibition and as always when the demo was over there was a talk back. I was the asked in the talk back, “of all the masks you’ve made which one is your favorite.” I always answer that question with, “the one I am working on right now.” In this case I said:

My favorite mask right now is the one I have just finished. The mask is the one in the gallery titled, Truth Weave. This mask was inspired by a dear friend and colleague of mine who has taught me it is essential we all live authentically as who we are and that we speak from a place of personal truth so others might know our story and learn from it. My friend taught me the importance of just listening and then creating personal change so we might be more effective in the actions we take and truer in the words we speak.

Truth Weave is a mask intended to reflect back to us the struggles faced by the other as it sees though the eyes of hope for the future.

My friend is black woman living in America today. Her struggles and the pain she has been through and continues to go through based on what has been, and is, going on in this nation now is unacceptable. It is my hope that when we encounter the mask Truth Weave we are faced with her story. It is my hope we then take action to end the pain we have caused.

The woman who asked the question thanked me for this response in a tone of deep appreciation.

And now Truth Weave is yours. Enjoy.

This decorative mask measure approximately 22″ x 22″ in size.
